The Chiefs will seek to fix their offensive line, particularly to find a player who can be a reliable left Tackle. Kansas City has gone through several players since he launched the left Tackle Eric Fisher after the 2020 season.
Orlando Brown Jr. took the place for two years before becoming a free agent and signing with the Cincinnati Bengles. Donovan Smith was his left Tackle in 2023, but was out of the NFL last season.
The Chiefs tried two young players, Kingsley Suamataia and Wanya Morris, in the left Tackle in 2024, but each played so bad that they were later in the bank. The team tested the veteran Dj Humphries, but he was not the answer.
Finally they transferred Joe Thuney to the left Tankle, but they always looked at him as a Stopgap, not a permanent solution. It is also unlikely that they have the initial Tackle next year on your list. Suamataia was playing guard when she resurfaced in the alignment at the end of the season. It is possible that Morris does not have a future with chiefs in any position. Humphries is a potential free agent.
Chiefs have selection No. 31 of the 2025 draft and may not find an appropriate available backle in a year when the draft is not well supplied in the position. They have encountered that problem in recent years and end up writing Suamataia in the second round last year and Morris in the third round in 2023.
General Manager Brett Varach has said that he does not expect the chiefs to be particularly active in free agency this season beyond the attempts to sign some of his own potential free agents, a list that includes the Guard Trey Smith, the Hollywood open receiver Brown, supporter Nick Bolton and security Justin Reid.
If the chiefs are spectators during the free agency, their improvement in the list will come as rookies. That is why Veach protected the selections of the Chiefs draft in the first three rounds instead of sending them in the commerce for players who could have helped them last season.
Kansas City has four selections in the first three rounds in this year’s draft, including a third additional round of the Tennessee Titans after last year’s exchange that sent the corner L’Arusius Sneed to Tennessee.
In other places, Chiefs will probably seek help in the defensive line. They will bring Chris Jones, Mike Danna and former first-round teams George Karlaftis and Felix Anudike-Zohomah, but could lose Charles Omenihu and Tershawn Wharton for free agency.
Kansas City will also seek to add the corner, where he has Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson. But the team struggled to find someone reliable in nickel coverage and to start when Watson lost half of the season with a broken fibula and warm.
The open receiver is also a necessity. The Chiefs have the first round draft selection last year, Xavier Worthy, and have a return of Rashee Rice, who lost most of last season with a knee injury. But they don’t have much depth, particularly if Brown goes as a free agent.
Chiefs could also use a versatile corridor to provide some relief to Isiah Pacheco and a supporter if Bolton, a four -year headline, leaves in the free agency. The closed wing is also a necessity, regardless of what Travis Kelce decides on retirement. Kelce, who will turn 36 in October, caught 97 passes but had minimal race in yards (823) and touchdowns (three) last season.
