ENGLEWOOD, Colorado – Broncos big receiver Josh Reynolds was one of two men injured in a shooting in Denver early Friday morning.
“Josh Reynolds was the victim of a shooting on Friday in Denver and was treated for minor injuries,” the team said in a statement Thursday. “Without regard to the criminal procedure, we can defer further comments on this issue to the government.”
Police documents indicate that Reynolds and another man were located, then more than one 911 caller reported that two families were shot, including on South Quebec Boulevard and East Union Street in Denver. Reynolds was shot twice: one in the left arm and another behind the head.
Staff sources said Thursday that Reynolds was treated and released from a medical schedule in the Denver area following filming.
Reynolds, 29, may not be reached for comment.
Reynolds, who is currently injured and then undergoing surgery on his finger, has been available for team activities in the past, including Thursday at the Broncos’ complex in Denver’s southern suburbs. The Broncos played the Saints at Untouched Orleans on October 17, and Reynolds did not make the shuttle as he is currently on injured reserve.
Police said Reynolds and two other people had reported they were at Shotgun Willie’s, a strip club in Glendale, Colorado, and left at 2:45 a.m. Friday morning. Reynolds and most of the men left the club in a van and later told police they were followed by more than one car and were fired.
Reynolds and the other guy got out of the truck they were traveling in when it was no longer traveling on Interstate 25, the highway that divides Denver from north to south. The vehicle was then found by police with more than one bullet hole.
The third member of Reynolds’ team, who was not traveling in the truck, was injured by broken glass but was not shot, according to the documents.
Denver police announced they had arrested two men in connection with the shooting: Burr Charlesworth, 42, and Luis Mendoza, 35. They are being held for investigation of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault.
Police discovery investigators say Mendoza followed Reynolds and the two others out of the strip club when the crowd left.
