Englewood, Colorado. In an agreement that was waiting in the Super Bowl and some of the contracts of contracts that come with a change of work, the Denver Broncos announced on Friday the hiring of Darren Rizzi as coordinator of special equipment/coach in assistant chief.
Rizzi has been the special team coordinator of the New Orleans Saints during the last six seasons after a period of 10 years with the Miami Dolphins. Rizzi, who also served as an interim coach of the Saints last season after Dennis Allen was fired, was in the staff of the Broncos coach, Sean Payton, in New Orleans for three seasons.
The coordinating work of special equipment is one of several openings in the Broncos staff that Payton has worked to complete the last weeks. Payton was in New Orleans last week in the days before the Super Bowl.
Payton dismissed the special team coordinator Ben Kotwica a week after the defeat of the Broncos against the Buffalo Bills in the Commodines Round, and the assistant coach Mike Westhoff retired during the season for health reasons. The other assistant coach of special Broncos teams, Chris Banjo, was not promoted by Payton after Kotwica’s dismissal and was hired as special team coordinator of the New York Jets.
Rizzi, who had formally interviewed for the work of coach of the Saints in mid -January, and some of the other New Orleans attending coaches, according to multiple sources of the League, were in a retention pattern until Kellen Moore was appointed team chief coach this week. Attendees had to wait to know if they would be retained in Moore’s staff or would be allowed to look for other jobs.
Moore was the offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles last season, and the Eagles won the Super Bowl Lix on Sunday.
The Broncos (10-8) led the league in yards for a return of clear this season at 15.7. Marvin Mims Jr. was appointed All-Pro as Returizer, and the kicker Wil Lutz tied Jason Elam for the field goal record of a single season of the franchise with 31.
However, two high -profile errors, both in the key losses of the AFC West, face the Broncos Special Teams Units.
The first was a blocked field goal when time expired on November 10 that retained the victory of Kansas City 16-14 over the Broncos at the Arrowhead stadium. The Chiefs discovered a weakness in the front of the Broncos in an anterior kick in the game and overloaded the left side of the line.
Multiple defenders of Kansas City then pushed Alex Forsyth, and supporter Leo Chenal blocked Lutz’s attempt to finish the game. The Broncos turned to Forsyth and the Reserve Tackle Matt Peart in the formation for the rest of the season, and Lutz made 41 of 42 field goals and attempts at additional points the rest of the road.
Lutz lost a loss of 50 yards on the wild card against the Bills.
The second high -profile special error occurred before part time of the defeat of December 19 of the Broncos against the Los Angeles Chargers at the Sofi stadium. The corner Tremon Smith was called to a fair capture interference when he hit the return of the Chargers Puntor, Derius Davis, when the first half was about to finish. The Chargers chose, as a rule, to take a free kick as a result of the penalty, and Los Angeles’ kicker, Cameron Dicker, made a 57 -yard field goal to finish half.
The play reduced the advantage of the Broncos to 21-13 and gave the Chargers, who obtained a 34-27 victory, needed impulse.
