What to know
The Chicago Bulls will close out 2024 with a road trip to take on the Atlanta Hawks at 7:30 p.m. ET on Thursday at State Farm Arena. After a loss in a game the Bulls were expected to win, they now face the tougher task of proving themselves against unfavorable odds.
The Bulls are heading into this after oddsmakers set last week’s low over/under at 226, but even that ended up being too high. They found themselves reluctant to take a punch in the gut 112-91 against the Bucks on Monday. The game marked Chicago’s lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Meanwhile, the Hawks can finally say goodbye to their three-game losing streak thanks to Monday’s game. They walked away with a 117-104 victory over the Timberwolves.
Several players turned in solid performances to lead the Hawks to victory, but perhaps none more so than Garrison Mathews, who went 7-of-8 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points plus two steals. That’s the most threes Mathews has posted since November. The team also got help from Trae Young, who had 29 points and seven assists.
Although they won, the Hawks struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only six offensive rebounds. They were demolished by their opponents in that department as the Timberwolves downed 16.
This is the second straight loss for Chicago and drops their season record to 13-17. As for Atlanta, the victory brought them back to a 15-15 tie.
The Bulls topped the Hawks in their previous meeting in November by a score of 136-122. The rematch could be a little more difficult for the Bulls since this time the team will not have the home field advantage. We’ll see if the change of venue makes a difference.
