You might want to start preparing to get banned from your friend’s HBO Max account as the password sharing crackdown is coming.
There is a limit to which each streaming service can grow because there are only so many people in the world, so in recent years these services came up with an annoying little idea: make it so you can only log in to one household. at the same time so that You cannot share your account with your friend. It sucks! Netflix does it, Disney Plus has started doing it, and now, as he speaks at the Wells Fargo TMT Summit (via Deadline), Warner Bros. Discovery CEO and President of Global gaming and Streaming JB Perrette (a title a bit of a mouthful, there) has shared that HBO will soon send reminders to Max subscribers about sharing passwords with some “very early and kind messages.”
Perrette went on to explain: “Trying to fine-tune the filter of who’s there is an art and a science. We’ll start sending early messages to some people who we think are at the highest level of usage. We’ll offer a basically adding a member, starting at Q1 they come back tighter and tighter.”
Obviously, that’s pretty annoying, but I guess the good thing is that HBO has also shared some release windows for some of its biggest shows (via Deadline). The long-awaited third season of Euphoria is apparently aiming to return in 2026, with filming set to begin early next year, so you still have quite a wait to see it.
Fortunately, however, the third season of White Lotus will arrive much sooner, arriving in February. Perrette said the game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will premiere in the summer, but HBO and Max Content CEO and president Casey Bloys said it would premiere in late 2025 in early this year, and sources who spoke to Deadline said this still appears to be the case. And as mentioned above, The Last of Us season 2 is on track for Q2. So, you may end up having to pay more, but at least there will be a lot of bits coming! Although it is a consolation prize.
