Art Rooney – Despite the wait, the ‘positive’ signals in Aaron Rodgers to Steelers

Palm Beach, Florida – although Aaron Rodgers remains unprofession, the owner and president of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Art Rooney II, said he continues to “listen” that the star marshal is “directed in our direction.”

“We continue to receive positive signals about it,” Rooney said on Tuesday of the annual league meeting. “So, I would say that we feel quite well about it at this time.”

One of those signals, according to Rooney, is that Rodgers and the new open receiver of the Steelers DK Metcalf had a launch session during the weekend in California. Photos and videos of training were published on Monday on social networks.

“I would say it was a good sign that I wanted to do that,” Rooney said about Rodgers and the session.

The Steelers began to seriously persecute Rodgers more than three weeks ago during the negotiation period before the official start of free agency. Rooney acknowledged that he did not imagine the “taking so long.”

Although he refused to give a firm timeline when he would like to solve Rodgers’ situation, Rooney suggested that there is no indefinite deadline.

“Not forever, but a little more,” he said when he asked if he was happy to wait for Rodgers.

The Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said the training camp on Sunday represents a “demarcation line” for when having an incomplete field marshal position would hinder the development of the team.

“In spring, it is about teaching and learning and familiarizing the players and making sure they are becoming familiar with some of the things we value,” Tomlin said. “It is not a time of evaluation of the year for us. It is certainly not a time of the year in which we are focused on preparing for the action of the game.”

Like the general manager Omar Khan and Tomlin, Rooney also said that the March meeting with Rodgers in Pittsburgh was fine.

“It was good to meet him,” Rooney said. “We talked about Pittsburgh and all Pittsburgh coaches who have had over the years … We had a good conversation.”
