Tottenham chief coach Ange Postecoglou, looks more isolated than ever.
The Australian directed a brief applaud to the furious fans who were traveling away from the midline after the 1-0 defeat of his team in Chelsea, but, by then, it could be argued that the damage had already been done.
The header of the second half of Enzo Fernández was enough to inflict a 16th defeat of the season in Tottenham and leave them 14 in the Premier League, 10 points from the top 10, and the signs are growing that some fans have had enough.
The songs of “You do not know what you are doing” came from the end after midfielder Lucas Bergvall was replaced by Pape Sarr in the 65th minute.
Surprisingly, Sarr found the network with an excellent long -range blow only four minutes later, which led Postecoglou to place his ear and turn to the end outside, just for Var to discard the goal for a foul on Moises Caicedo.
When asked about the incident after the game, Postecoglou said: “My God, it’s incredible how things are interpreted. We just scored, I just wanted to hear them cheer up. Because we had gone through a difficult time, and I thought it was a crunchy goal.
“I wanted them to really get excited. I felt at that moment that we could continue and win the game. I felt that the impulse was in our [side]. It doesn’t bother me. It is not the first time that my substitutions or my decisions booed. Okay, they are allowed to do that.
“But we just scored a goal, we just scored an equalizer, I just hoped to get some emotion. If people want to read that in some way that I am trying to make a point about something, as I said, we had gone through a difficult time, but I felt that there was a change of impulse there.
“If they really get behind the boys, I thought we had the impulse to finish them.”
It is only the last in an incident season between Posttecoglou and the sections of the Fan Base.
There was the recent exchange with an angry supporter after Fulham’s defeat just before the international break, another round trip occurred after the defeat at home to Leicester and faced himself at the end after criticizing the players after losing in Bournemouth in December.
He added when he was asked if he was alienating fans: “You know what, I’m so disconnected with the world these days, who knows? Maybe you’re right. I don’t know. But that’s not my intention.”
This only aggravates the lack of progress in the field, especially with almost a complete squad of available players, since the Spurs seek to avoid their worst season in the Era of the Premier League.
The former Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp, clearly expressed it when he said in Sky Sports: “Tottenham was horrible. It could have been much more. It’s not good enough in any Tottenham department. Chelsea was much better.
“When Sarr scored, it seemed that Angehoced his ears to say: I know better. There is a disconnection between the two [Tottenham fans and Ange Postecoglou] at the moment.
“It is not ideal for the manager. He has some big games ahead. He has to keep his head up, move on, working hard and believing in what they do.”
