After a leak suggests Assassin’s Creed Shadows is getting a battle pass, Ubisoft is setting the record straight on what you’ll actually pay for

After a leaked Assassin’s Creed Shadows battle pass appeared online, Ubisoft is setting the record straight whether you have to pay for it or not.

While many players can interact with them, battle passes aren’t exactly universally loved, as they’re essentially tasks designed to keep you playing while nothing else happens. Honestly, they suck, and when a leak earlier this week seemed to suggest that the incoming Animus Hub, the hub area for Assassin’s Creed games starting with Shadows, would have a battle pass that unlocks things like cosmetics, flags were obviously raised. red on the leaflet. It wasn’t clear whether it would be paid or not, and people were obviously concerned that there would be a paid battle pass attached to a single-player game.

Now, on the Assassin’s Creed subreddit, Ubisoft has shared a statement in this regard clarifying whether you will need to spend extra money to collect these rewards or not. “Hello everyone. It has come to our attention that inaccurate rumors regarding the upcoming Animus Hub (ex-codename Infinity) have been circulating online,” the post reads. “We wanted to take this opportunity to clarify that all rewards available in Animus Hub will be completely free. There are no paid subscriptions or paid battle passes in Animus Hub. Players will have access to regular content and missions at no additional cost. We will reveal more details about it closer to the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Thank you!”

Given that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is important to Ubisoft (a developer that could be acquired by Tencent because it’s doing so poorly), it’s not surprising that it wants to set the record straight on something like this. It’s good news that any adjacent battle passes in the Animus Hub will be free, so let’s hope it stays that way.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows was delayed in September, so it will now be released on February 14, 2025, where it will be available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
