Ella Toone: The English midfielder suffers a calf injury in Manchester United training

England midfielder Ella Toone has been ruled out of Manchester United’s next two matches due to a calf injury suffered in training.

Toone missed the matchday squad for United’s visit to Leicester in the WSL on Sunday – the first time in 96 league games he has not started for the Red Devils.

United manager Marc Skinner confirmed Toone will miss their midweek visit to Everton in the League Cup and the trip to WSL leaders Chelsea next Sunday.

Toone, 25, suffered the injury in Manchester United training on Friday.

It means he could miss out on being in the England squad for their friendlies in the upcoming international break.

“Yesterday in training Ella suffered a calf injury,” Skinner said.

“She was running and just felt something. “She’ll miss the next two games, she’ll miss Everton and Chelsea, then we’ll talk later in the week to find out the magnitude of this.

“Potentially [she will be available for England] – We don’t know that yet.”

England will host the United States in a friendly at Wembley on November 30 and face Switzerland three days later.

The news adds to the injury concerns of England coach Sarina Wiegman, who will be without Lauren James for the games, while Lauren Hemp is a concern, having missed Manchester City’s last two games through injury.

Fifth-placed United hope Toone will be ready in time for their home game against Liverpool on December 8 after the international break.

Toone has struggled for form this season so far, failing to score in any of the six WSL matches he has appeared in for United.
