Scottish Nations League matches to be streamed on YouTube

Scotland’s latest Nations League matches against Croatia and Poland will again be broadcast on YouTube, rather than television.

Scandinavian broadcaster Viaplay owns the rights to broadcast the games, but announced in June 2023 that it will reduce its UK operations.

The company will continue to produce coverage of the matches, but they will be broadcast on the Scottish FA’s YouTube channel dedicated to the national team.

It follows the same scheme as the October matches, with the defeat against Croatia and the draw with Portugal, which generated more than 1.5 million combined views on YouTube.

Steve Clarke’s side host Croatia at Hampden on Friday before finishing their campaign in Poland on Monday (both 19:45 GMT).

As well as Scotland’s men’s matches, Viaplay had the rights to broadcast the Scottish League Cup and the United Rugby Championship when it announced it would end all coverage of UK sports.

The media group then sold its UK sports division to Premier Sports earlier this year.

The deal included their share of the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup, but did not include the rights to UEFA’s international competitions.

Viaplay and ITV have reached a deal to broadcast September’s matches against Poland and Portugal on the broadcaster’s ITVX platform, with BBC Scotland also in talks to broadcast those matches.

However, Viaplay chose not to outsource the rights for the remainder of the campaign.
