Lockie Ferguson ruled out for ODI against Sri Lanka with calf injury Adam Milne called up
Lockie Ferguson will fly back to New Zealand after suffering a calf injury in their T20I win over Sri Lanka on Sunday. The 33-year-old fast bowler has been ruled out of the ODI leg of the tour which begins with the first of three matches on November 13.

Ferguson had just returned from an injury (a different one, his right hamstring) and was heavily involved in turning around New Zealand’s fortunes, his hat-trick helping them defend a total of 108 as they came back from 0-1 down. to share the loot. An NZC statement said he felt some discomfort while bowling his second delivery of the chase. Ferguson left the field thereafter and could not participate further in that T20I, although he returned to collect the Man of the Match award. According to initial assessments, he has been ruled out for the remainder of the Sri Lanka tour. He is scheduled to undergo scans upon arrival in New Zealand to determine the extent of the damage and recovery timeline. Adam Milne has been called up to replace Ferguson and will arrive in Dambulla on Tuesday.

“We are gutted for Lockie,” said New Zealand head coach Gary Stead, “he showed in the space of just two overs how valuable he is with the ball and he has also brought a lot of leadership to this group, so “It will be a big loss ahead of an important ODI series for us. Being ruled out so early in a tour is always difficult to accept, but we hope his recovery is short and he returns to the field in. there is no time

“Adam is a like-for-like replacement who brings genuine pace and plenty of international experience, so we look forward to welcoming him to the group.”

Ferguson has played one Test, 65 ODIs and 43 T20Is for New Zealand since making his debut in December 2016. He has been one of the team’s first picks in white-ball cricket, a status he underlined by registering his country’s sixth T20I cap. . -trick. New Zealand will now rely on a relatively inexperienced bowling attack, although the inclusion of Milne (49 ODIs and 53 T20Is played) offsets that somewhat. Milne will join Jacob Duffy and Nathan Smith to form the team’s frontline bowling options supported by all-rounders Zakary Foulkes and Josh Clarkson.

New Zealand are at the end of a long tour of the subcontinent that began with a failed test against Afghanistan in early September. This was followed by a 0-2 defeat to Sri Lanka a few weeks later and a 3-0 win over India in India earlier this month.
