The price of the PS5 Pro “has not had a negative impact” on console sales, says Sony president

Sony president Hiroki Totoki has said that the price of the PlayStation 5 Pro has not had a negative impact on sales of the console.

Speaking as part of Sony’s recent financial report, Totoki said (spotted by Genki_JPN) “Hardcore users are the target of this hardware.”

“In terms of pricing, a lot of people made different comments about it, but I don’t think the price of PS5 Pro has had a negative impact.”

The PS5 Pro launched on Thursday priced at $700 / £700 / €800. Unlike the PlayStation 5, the PlayStation 5 Pro is not out of stock and is available in most stores. It’s worth noting that the PlayStation 5 launched in 2020 during a global chip shortage, leading to console shortages, but it also appears interest in the higher-spec machine is waning from the base unit.

Resellers looking to emulate the huge profits they saw on the PS5 reseller have been forced to sell consoles at a loss after the rush for the mid-gen console failed to materialise.

Several sellers currently have Buy It Now consoles on sale for £680-£700, while others currently have auctions between £510 and £670; While these auctions are likely to increase before they end, they seem less likely to surpass the console’s £700 retail price.

While it appears that the console is generally available to those who want it, resellers have not completely abandoned the PS5 Pro. Instead, it is the console’s external disk drive, which is sold separately, that is in short supply and is being sold.

The drive is supposed to sell for $79.99/£99.99, but it’s currently out of stock at all major retailers and as a result, eBay sellers in the UK are posting Buy It Now listings selling the unit for £150 – £250.
