Sacramento Kings star saver De’Aaron Fox said he played the first part of this season with a right hand injury that likely involves a ligament injury.
Fox told the Sacramento Bee on Saturday that he suffered a dislocation of his left pinky finger during training camp and that the concussion has not healed.
Although X-rays on the finger were negative, Fox told the Bee that his shock was “probably due to a ligament.” The 2023 celebrity has been participating in this season with the pinky and ring fingers of his left hand taped together in combination.
Fox revealed the details of his surprise after Sacramento’s 131-128 overtime loss on Saturday to the Raptors in Toronto. The 2023 All-Famous told the newspaper that he plans to continue playing during the crisis, adding that it hasn’t gotten worse.
Fox failed to qualify in overtime on Saturday and ignored all 11 of his 3-point attempts (including a possible game-tying shot 2 seconds apart) during the Kings’ loss, dropping his 3-point percentage to 26.8% in six games this season.
Fox, who was 4-for-6 from 3-point range the night before in a win at Atlanta, told the Bee that he didn’t think the impact of his finger contributed to his necessary shot.
“I wouldn’t change anything (about my shot choice), especially the last one,” he informed the newspaper. “I had an open look and it didn’t go well… I can’t say (the injury) is the reason. I’ve had games where I’ve pitched well and I’ve had games where I haven’t, I just have to get used to it.”
Fox, 26, is averaging 23.5 assists and 5.7 assists this season, his eighth with Sacramento. The Kings completed a four-game road trip Monday against the Heat before returning home Wednesday to host the Raptors.
