Crystal Palace duo Wharton and Eze ready to play due to injuries

Crystal Palace striker Eberechi Eze and midfielder Adam Wharton are set to be out for a while due to injuries, says coach Oliver Glasner.

Both players fired shots during the Eagles’ midweek Carabao Cup last-16 victory against Aston Villa.

Wharton will undergo one-day surgery on his groin before Eberechi Eze is out with a hamstring concussion.

“It will be very ambitious to have [Eze] back after [mid-November] international break, but I know we have a great medical department and he will work very hard, so we’ll see,” Glasner mentioned.

“We made the final decision [on Wharton]They will operate on it. I try [training] but the pain is too much and then it is meaningless. He’s really struggled in recent weeks and months.

“So now we made the verdict to have him have surgery and we hope to have him back in maybe 4 weeks.”

Palace, who claimed their first Premier League win of the season by beating Tottenham 1-0 last weekend, will face fellow Wolves on Saturday.

He will also be unable to count on Colombian midfielder Jefferson Lerma at least until the international break, which begins on November 11, due to a hamstring problem.

Glasner added: “A lot of coaches talk about similar problems, and especially when we look at our injured players, everyone who played a long game in the summer, had a negative vacation, had a negative preseason and after many, many video games.

“There’s a time when you have to pay the bill, and we’ve had to pay it for the last one, two, three weeks, but that’s the way it is and we’re still a strong team.”
