India vs New Zealand 2024/25, IND vs NZ Third Test Match Report, Nov 1-5, 2024

Shake New Zealand chose to bat vs India

New Zealand won their second toss of the series and decided to bat first as they sought a first whitewash against India in India. It was a big draw to win again because batting last wasn’t expected to be fun. However, Dinesh Karthik, who inspected the pitch, said there was moisture on the surface, which was also expected to lead to early spin, then some settling and a lot of spin after that.

New Zealand made two changes, both fitness-related. Mitchell Santner, who led New Zealand to victory with a sore side in Pune, was ruled out with a side strain, making way for leg-spinner Ish Sodhi. Matt Henry recovered from a Grade 1 glute tear to take his place in the XI, replacing Tim Southee.
Santner had suffered a lateral strain during the final day of the Pune test, where he played a leading role. He was ruled out for Mumbai after failing a fitness test on the eve of the match.
India, fighting for pride and also for crucial points in the World Test Championship, made one change with the ailing Jasprit Bumrah making way for Mohammed Siraj. A BCCI statement said Bumrah “had not fully recovered from his viral illness”.

KL Rahul continued to sit out despite the batting miss against spin in Pune.
