The Chiefs welcomed their latest megastar to Kansas Town on Thursday, turning him pro.
Hopkins, 32, joins Kansas Town in exchange for a conditional fifth-round pick, which will become a fourth-round pick if the Chiefs reach the Super Bowl and Hopkins plays 60% of the snaps. The Titans pay $2.5 million of Hopkins’ excess salary, by NFL.com.
ESPN recently reported that Tennessee now I didn’t buy food proactively Hopkins and the veteran indicated he was happy to stay with the Titans despite the team’s strong start to the 2024 season. However, numerous NFL trades are finalized without depending on what players or teams say publicly, and the Chiefs had a clear need for massive receiver help as two players in their administration were sick on site.
In addition to Brown and Rice, the Chiefs also saw stock JuJu Smith-Schuster, who reunited with the team earlier this season, miss the lineup Sunday with irritated hamstring trauma. That left rookie Xavier Decent leading the receiving corps along with backups Justin Watson and Skyy Moore.
Hopkins has battled his own injuries, including an MCL issue this year, but remains a fruitful property target when he’s on the field. The former Houston Texans megastar eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards as the Titans’ primary receiver in 2023, and has so far recorded six 1,000-yard seasons between the Texans and the Arizona Cardinals.
