John McGinn: Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is incomparable

Captain John McGinn says he has never met anyone like Unai Emery and that the Spaniard already has confidence in the park of some of the mythical figures in Aston Villa’s history.

Villa’s important start to the season continued with a 2-0 win over Bologna as they took control of the Champions League table.

Emery, who celebrates two years at Villa Soil on Thursday, has also led the team to fourth place in this season’s Premier League, four points behind leaders Liverpool.

The 52-year-old is yet to win a trophy with the club but McGinn believes his place in Villa’s history is secured.

“No matter what happens until now and when he leaves, we hope it never will be like that, he will certainly be remembered as one of the best coaches of our club,” McGinn mentioned.

“You feed off your leader. He’s our leader and we feed off that. No one can question what he puts in, the effort, and everything that comes his way and us is because of hard work.”

“He’s under a lot of pressure. I’ve never met anyone like him,” the 30-year-old added.

McGinn said Emery has been the “most effective person” not to be enthused by Villa’s early-season form, with the former Arsenal boss concentrating on his job.

“He just concentrates all his power throughout the week,” added the Scottish midfielder.

“He no longer allows us to get our butts out of the fuel so we can harness all of our power and exuberance and emotion that we have. His decisiveness and depth are unrivaled.”
