Seahawks to start Jerrell at RT, CBs Woolen, Brown ruled out

The Seattle Seahawks have their fourth chance to take over the right-hander, and maestro Mike Macdonald announced Friday that rookie Mike Jerrell will start Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Seahawks will also be without two of their top three cornerbacks, with Pro Bowler Riq Woolen and Tre Brown ruled out.

Stone Forsythe, who had started the five-hour games in the right position in George Fant’s park, was ruled out with a knock to the hand. Fant began the season as Seattle’s starter in the park of Abe Lucas (knee), who also physically could not make the list. Extra fant (knee) for injured insured.

Jerrell, a sixth-round pick out of Section II Findlay, was a healthy zero through the first five games and has yet to play offensive games.

“He had a great week of preparation,” Macdonald said. “The guy has continued to improve since he got here. He’s come a long way in less than a year, I’m very proud of him. He’s got a great opportunity. I know he’s excited. Excited to see him do his thing.”

The Seahawks also have 42-year-old Jason Peters on their practice squad, but Macdonald said the 21-year-old veteran will not be drafted in the future.

Woolen ignored Seattle’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers and sealed the future with a bruised ankle. Brown hurt his ankle in that competition. Macdonald said Faion Hicks and Josh Jobe will be added from the practice squad. Devon Witherspoon will be part of Seattle’s plan at Nickelback, although Macdonald would not reveal whether Hicks or Jobe will also help fill that role.

Macdonald said Seattle hopes to have Woolen and Brown again in the future.

Forsythe did not observe this future.

“He had some problems with his hand, so he fixed it,” Macdonald said. “He will be back soon.”

Macdonald said defenseman Rayshawn Jenkins, injured in the past due to a hand injury he was playing on, underwent surgery last Friday and is expected to return this season.

The Seahawks, looking to snap a three-game losing streak with a score of 3-0, are 3.0-point underdogs, according to ESPN BET.
