Kojima celebrates Death Stranding players milestone ahead of Death Stranding 2’s summer release

Many millions of us have looked for a goalkeeper in the storm, with Hideo Kojim announcing today that the number of death players has now exceeded a little of 20 million.

“Thank you very much. Sam around the world is still delivering. You are connecting the world,” Kojima wrote on social networks with a small pleasant chart that shows Sam looking towards another Sam.

This last figure is for players on all the available platforms, and includes those who have led to death to a whirlwind as part of a subscription service such as PlayStation Plus.

As the industry analyst Daniel Ahmad pointed out, Death Stranding had sold less than 5 million copies before launch on PC, PC, PS+, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Mac.

“Making the game more accessible has led more than 20 million players to experience the IP before the launch of their sequel that will require players to have a PS5 to play at launch,” Ahmad wrote in X.

As for that sequel, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, to give it its full name, it will be launched on June 26 and includes a new character that significantly resembles the metal snake Gear Solid. This was revealed during the SXSW 2025 showcase of the game in early March.

At the end of last year, Kojima Productions shared several new footage fragments for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, including a look at the very realistic photos of the next game and Sam Bridges’ Stop Motion Puppet Companion, Dollman.

As expected from a Kojima game, everything looks properly strange. Are you looking forward to Sam once again this summer?
