Mavs’ PJ Washington confronts fans shouting ‘Fire Nico’ during the free kick: ‘Sick and tired of listening to it’

The fans of the Dallas Mavericks are still in mourning (well, sports mourning, anyway) about the already infamous trade that sent the Cornerstone Luka Dončić franchise to Los Angeles Lakers for a package focused on Anthony Davis. Things were downhill for Dallas immediately after the agreement, since Davis was injured in his first game and has not yet returned, while the star guard Kyrie Irving was lost for the season due to an acl torn in early March.

As a result, the Mavericks have absolutely seen, going 1-6 since Irving’s injury and falling from number 8 to number 10 in the classification of the West Conference from the exchange deadline.

The main culprit in the eyes of Mavericks fans has been General Manager Nico Harrison, who Assumed all the responsibility of trade that most experts still fight to understand at any level. Since the agreement was announced, Mavericks fans have made “Fire Nico” a common chorus, even leading a fanatic Eliminated from a February game After taking the words in the Jumbotron.

The situation has clearly frustrated the mavericks striker, PJ Washington, who faced a fan who shouted “Fire Nico” twice while he was in the free throw line during the defeat at home 130-125 of Dallas against the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday. According to the reports, the Mavs striker, Naji Marshall, spoke with the fan after the first time he shouted and then, after the fan repeated it, Washington shouted, “shut up ass” Before taking your second free kick.

Washington discussed the situation after the game, explaining why he no longer wants to listen to “Fire Nico” of Mavericks fans.

“At the end of the day, exchanges occur. We understand that we have a new team now,” Washington said. “All those things about ‘Fire Nico’, we are sick and tired of listening to it. We just want to leave and play, and we want fans to support us regardless of who is on the floor. This is how I feel about it.”

The Mavericks Guard, Max Christie, who came from the Lakers in the Dončić trade, also responded to the songs.

“It is definitely not pleasant to listen, but I really can’t comment much about that to be honest.” Christie said. “They pay us a lot of money just to play basketball, so for us, we have small things so they can distract and what not, we should not affect us. We are professionals. We are the best in what we do in this sport. Distractions will be there, and we must be able to advance and move forward and not let them affect them.”

Christie’s feeling is one that you generally listen to the players, saying that fans’ behavior should have no relationship with their performance. But for Washington’s Point, it has to be very old to listen to their own fans who complain continuously of something that happened more than a month ago while the players are doing everything possible to try to win games and put an entertaining product on the floor.

Unfortunately for Washington and any other player who may be annoying, is likely to not stop until the Mavericks begin to win again or, in fact, they decide to say goodbye to Nico. And things can intensify the more we go to Dončić to Dallas on April 9.
