The last update of the popular Football Manager series has been canceled, its creators announced.
Long -term video game fans began to speculate on their destination when an update did not arrive at the end of last month.
In a blog post, Developer Sports Interactive told the players that he had made the “difficult decision” to cancel the 2025 edition, since it was “too far from the standards you deserve.”
He said that he would now change the focus on version 2026 of the game and fans who had requested the canceled launch could obtain a refund.
The football manager, first released in 2004, allows fans to enter the place of a gaffer and guide a team chosen for a season.
Sports Interactive had promised a variety of updates to the images and interface of the game in the next edition, and also introduced women’s teams for the first time.
The developer previously said to BBC Newsbeat that he had to build a new statistics database and record new movement capture sequences for players.
He also announced that he had reduced his international management and pausing mode of work in other characteristics seen in previous games.
Sports Interactive said he was not willing to push the game beyond March “, since it would be too late in the football season” to do so.
The company apologized to fans and said it could not announce the delay before due to financial regulations and obligations with its shareholders.
“All efforts now focus on ensuring that our next launch achieves our goal and reaches the level of quality we all expect.
“We will update it on how we are progressing with that as soon as we can do.”
