Revolution Software may be developing a remaster of Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror. The studio hinted at this during a presentation on its official account.
The Reforged edition of Shadow of the Templars revitalized the original 1996 classic by adding 4K backgrounds, reanimated sprites, improved audio, and more. Released in September for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, and later for Nintendo Switch, the remaster received a warm reception for its faithful but revamped take on George Stobbart and Nicole Collard’s conspiracy-laden adventure. Encouraged by this success, Revolution Software seems set to extend the same treatment to The Smoking Mirror.
The track emerged during Revolution’s recent Christmas recap video, where studio head Charles Cecil examined concept art for Shadow of the Templars Reforged. Towards the end of the video, Cecil revealed designs for George Stobbart’s iconic shorts and sunglasses ensemble from The Smoking Mirror, which he wore during his exploration of Quaramonte, a Central American city central to the sequel’s story. Accompanied by a knowing shrug at the camera, Cecil left little doubt about the studio’s intentions.
It won’t be surprising to see the studio remaster the second game, given the success of their efforts with the first. It’s just a matter of when they will make such an announcement. Considering that the studio is currently focused on developing the sixth game in the franchise, fans may have to wait a while for this news. However, you can rest assured that your favorite franchise is alive and well, with a new sixth entry in development and a remaster or remake of the second game also in the works, which is expected to continue until 2025.
