The hit live service Marvels Rivals will introduce a new hero every six weeks, the game director has confirmed.
Guangyun Chen talked about how often NetEase plans to add new characters to the game in an interview coinciding with the release of Season 1 last week.
Eternal Night Falls is a vampire-themed season that features the Fantastic Four in battle against Dracula’s forces.
It’s an excellent season that features Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic in its first half, followed by Human Torch and The Thing in the second half.
Season 1 also includes three new maps, special events, and a new Doom Match game mode.
“Every season we will release new seasonal stories, new maps and new heroes,” Chen told Metro.
“In fact, we will divide each season into two halves. The duration of a season is three months. And for each half of the season, we will introduce a new hero.
“Over time, we just want to continue to improve the experience and, you know, keep everyone excited in our community.”
Chen also talked about how NetEase approaches choosing new heroes for the game.
“Our choice of heroes will be guided by the overall gameplay experience or the theme we want to create for each season,” he explained. “So it will revolve around the season and right now, after launch, we have eight Vanguards and Seven Strategists at launch.
“The team believes it gives players solid variety for tactical matchups or team composition. Having more Duelists at this time will definitely improve the Duelist experience, allowing players to delve a little deeper into that aspect.
“Lastly, a big shout out to our community, as we’ve seen a lot of feedback as we look towards future seasons, starting with Season One, we would definitely keep this in mind when introducing new heroes, and we would like to make sure everyone is “feel heard and excited.”
The launch of Season 1 saw Marvel Rivals attract 644,269 concurrent players on Steam on January 11, bringing it to the platform’s 14th highest concurrent player count of all time.
