Bungie and NetEase unveil free-to-play mobile shooter Future: Emerging with closed alpha coming soon

Bungie has unveiled Future: Emerging, a free mobile version of its sci-fi shooter line developed in collaboration with Chinese author NetEase, which is expected to receive a “limited access closed alpha test” on iOS and Android this November.

NetEase initially announced a partnership with Bungie in 2018, and in 2022 stories began to circulate that the two were, in fact, racing to bring Future to mobile devices. And the culmination of that work is now visible as Future: Emerging, a “new adventure set in an alternate Destiny timeline, exploring a narrative in the post-Dark Age era.”

“With the help of the legendary Iron Lords,” Bungie teases, “humanity has broken free from the shackles of tyranny and has begun to unite against the alien forces intent on its extinction. Amid the chaos of this early era of The City, a new generation “The Light Bearers, resurrected by mysterious entities known as Ghosts, set out to restore humanity to prominence and secure its future.”

All of that will fuel the process of a “shared world” experience that stretches from the sanctuary of Haven to the “icy ancient metro of Jiangshi and the arid expanse of the Red Sea Rift.” Aggressive, cooperative, and single-player multiplayer modes are all incorporated, with some aiming to be “familiar to Destiny players” while others are “completely new.” NetEase has so far shown a mix of PvP and PvE, including six-player co-op campaigns and moves.

Future: Emerging also promises a “diverse roster” of playable characters, including “familiar faces” from Future Week and a “large number of intriguing new characters,” all with unique abilities and stories. And if that appeals to you, everything can also be played in first or third person through the use of a controller or touch screen; This comes after Bungie filed several patents related to digital controls on touch devices in 2022.

Bungie has yet to share a reduced build for Future: Emerging, but a closed alpha test is scheduled for November 1, with registrations now visible on the trusted website.

Today’s announcement follows a soft stream of information about Future 2, including new confirmation that the next-gen Codename: Apollo expansion will feature a “Metroidvania-inspired destination,” as Bungie continues its efforts to build up love for game month amid major layoffs. in the studio.
