Microsoft will once again host an Xbox Developer Direct to kick off the new year, with deep dives into a small selection of upcoming titles from Xbox game Studios.
The next Xbox live stream will begin at 6pm UK time (i.e. 1pm Eastern or 10am Pacific time) on Thursday, January 23; That’s fifteen days from today.
On the schedule will be a detailed look at Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and a mysterious fourth game from an unknown studio. Mysterious!
Doom: The Dark Ages has been dubbed as an origin story for the iconic Doom Slayer series from veteran developer id Software, and will release for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S sometime in 2025. a quote? It seems likely.
Meanwhile, South of Midnight is the stylish action adventure from We Happy Few developer Compulsion Games, set in a gothic fantasy of America’s Deep South. It looks like a treat, although it currently lacks a release date beyond “2025.” We hope to know when exactly it will arrive on PC and Xbox Series X/S very soon.
Next up is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This is French group Sandfall Interactive’s dark fantasy RPG that we think has shades of Persona and Final Fantasy, plus the vocal talents of Andy Serkis and Charlie Cox. Clair Obscur is not an Xbox game Studios title and is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S sometime this year.
And then there’s the fourth game. Microsoft still has a lot on its 2025 release schedule that could be: Fable, The Outer Wilds, even Avowed which will be just a month away. But the secretive nature here suggests something that has yet to be publicly confirmed. It will be interesting to see if the internet rumors about an Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake bear any fruit.
Join us in a couple of weeks for the Xbox Developer Direct, right here on Eurogamer, when we’ll be reporting live.
