Victor Wembanyama sues Texas man over unauthorized use of NIL to promote products
Victor Wembanyama, the 2023-24 NBA Rookie of Life and an emerging superstar for the San Antonio Spurs, is suing a Texas kid who has allegedly altered Wembanyama’s identity, symbol and image to promote products. According to NIL Day-today, the lawsuit claims in federal court in Texas that James T. Glodich of Austin, Texas, has altered Wembanyama’s image for profit without her permission.

The criminal complaint states that a choice was made to deny Wembanyama a life. 1 overall pick by the Spurs in the 2023 NBA Draft, Glodich began exploiting Wembanyama’s image and introduced a site that promoted products featuring his symbol, with products ranging from t-shirts and candles to bibs and wrapping paper. . Glodich is alleged to have submitted uninvited federal emblems such as “The Wemby” and “Wemby’s World” through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in fields that “falsely suggest a connection” to Wembanyama.

While Glodich struggled to sell the parts, Wembanyama’s criminal team argues that he is responsible for false endorsement and violating Wembanyama’s privacy rights, with the misconception that Wembanyama endorses the products damaging the value of his NIL. Wembanyama is seeking a court order to stop Glodich’s unauthorized highlighting of his image, as well as financial damages.

Wembanyama is legally represented by John M. Guaragna and Michael A. Geller of DLA Piper. According to KSAT, Glodich declined to comment on the matter in a phone interview.
