Elden Ring reaches 28 million sales, surpassing the lifetime record of the Dark Souls franchise

Bandai Namco recently announced that Elden Ring, the critically acclaimed action role-playing game co-developed with FromSoftware, has sold more than 28 million copies worldwide. This achievement firmly establishes Elden Ring as one of the most successful games in modern gaming history, surpassing the lifetime sales of FromSoftware’s renowned Dark Souls franchise, which previously reported more than 27 million copies sold.

The announcement was made during the reveal of a new spin-off game, Elden Ring: Night Reign. This upcoming title, scheduled for a global release in 2025, will expand the Elden Ring universe.

Nightreign’s announcement comes as Elden Ring continues to surprise players with its detailed story, open-world setting, and satisfying gameplay. Both companies thanked fans for their continued support and promised more updates as Nightreign’s release approaches.

From Software has just released a new expansion called Shadow of the Erdtree. It’s packed with tons of new content. Basically, it’s like a half-sequel with a whole new area and a bunch of new boss fights. The expansion even got a nod for game of the year, but that created some uproar over whether expansions should be nominated for game of the year awards.

Now that Elden Ring is outselling the Dark Souls series, it really shows how FromSoftware games are reaching new heights. The buzz around Nightreign is adding even more excitement to fans who can’t wait to explore more of the world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team.
