Kraven the Hunter isn’t even out yet, but a new report has made it pretty clear that Sony is done with its SUMC for now.
The SUMC, or Sony Universe of Marvel Characters, will go down in history for several reasons, including having a ridiculous name, featuring movies about characters no one really cares about, and wasting a ton of money. Kraven the Hunter will still be the final entry in the Spider-Man-less Spider-Verse when it releases this Friday the 13th (really? That’s the date you picked?), but a new report from TheWrap essentially confirms that it is. This will be Sony’s latest attempt at creating a connected universe of Spider-Man-related characters.

A top talent agent who spoke to TheWrap reportedly said that Sony has “developed what they want to develop for now” and that now it’s “really about the next Spider-Man movie.” That movie will be Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4, a film directed by Destin Daniel Cretton that will be released in July 2026 and is obviously part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Sony is just helping to produce it. Another Sony insider told TheWrap that in addition to Spider-Man 4 being the focus, the company will also continue to focus on Beyond the Spider-Verse, the upcoming animated sequel that does not yet have a release date, and Spider-Man Noir, the live movie. Amazon action series starring Nicolas Cage as the main character.
What you’ll obviously notice here is that the emphasis is put back on Spider-Man, you know, the character that people really like, rather than his villains or supporting characters that people are barely familiar with. But after that? Who knows! But I’m sure it won’t involve Morbius.
