Arcane was never going to have a third season, but its showrunner has teased that certain characters could have their own spin-offs.

Arcane fans, don’t worry, it looks like your favorites aren’t being abandoned entirely, as spin-offs for “certain characters” are on the table.

We already know that Riot has plans for a “schedule of different projects” in the works after the success of Arcane, all at different points in development, but what those projects are is still a mystery. However, one thing that left certain Arcane fans disappointed is that the show only had two seasons (and not five, as previously and incorrectly rumored). This doesn’t mean the end of the characters you know and love, however, as speaking with The Direct, co-creator Christian Linke shared that the team is thinking about shows spin-offs of particular characters.

Linke explained that they’re not looking so much at “season 3, but at the individual stories of certain characters that are in ‘Arcane,’ in both seasons,” when it comes to what’s next for the series. “[There] They definitely say, ‘Hey, let’s continue their stories in their own kind of franchises and stories.’ ‘Arcane’ is definitely just the first. We want to keep telling stories.” What might this mean for you? Well, presumably you’ll get to see some of your favorites once again, but obviously season 2 left more than one in a not-so-live state, so maybe you’ll have to be your favorite from another universe.

One thing I hope for future projects from Riot and Fortiche is that they slow things down a bit: Season 2 was too fast-paced and packed too much into a single season. Luckily, Linke is aware of those pacing complaints, so let’s hope that’s taken into account for whatever comes next. After all, it’s like we have Ekko’s time travel, so we can’t reverse mistakes once they’ve already been made.
