What to know
Pelicans fans are hoping the team plays a big game on Monday as the odds are decidedly against them. Having played yesterday, they will hit the road to face the Atlanta Hawks at 7:30 pm ET at State Farm Arena. The Pelicans are certainly hoping to end a ten-game road losing streak.
The Pelicans are heading into this after bookmakers set last week’s low over/under at 224.5, but even that ended up being too high. They suffered a resounding 118-85 loss at the hands of the Knicks on Sunday. The matchup marked New Orleans’ lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, the Pelicans had a hard time working together and finished the game with just 20 assists. They don’t win (0-4) when they simply don’t pass the ball.
Meanwhile, the Hawks entered their matchup against the Hornets on Saturday with two straight wins, but will enter their next game with three. They had enough and beat Charlotte 107-104. For those keeping track at home, that’s the closest victory Atlanta has achieved since March 25.
New Orleans’ loss dropped its record to 4-17. As for Atlanta, their victory raised their record to 10-11.
The Pelicans lost to the Hawks on the road by a decisive margin of 126-111 in their previous matchup in November. Can the Pelicans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We will know very soon.
