Tershawn Wharton catches child after Chiefs-Panthers game

A total of four touchdown passes were thrown during the Kansas City Chiefs’ dramatic 30-27 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, but the biggest catch at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, came after of the party.

Fans clamored around the bleacher railings to position themselves to receive a souvenir or high-five Chiefs players leaving the field. But it quickly became scary for one boy when he lost his balance and slipped off the edge of the raised steps.

Fortunately, Kansas City defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton was on site to make the play of the day.

Wharton made two tackles on the field against the Panthers. But the two-time Super Bowl champion defensive lineman showed the hands and instincts of a wide receiver when he lunged forward and caught the falling boy, preventing him from hitting the turf.

“Honestly, it was a natural reaction,” Wharton said on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday. “I grabbed him by the back of his neck and pushed him a little further into the stands.”

Wharton’s quick reaction helped the boy avoid a head-first fall. He said in his interview with McAfee that he is looking to invite the young fan to a Chiefs game.
