CD Project Red has finally started production on the next Witcher game (which probably won’t be The Witcher 4)

That’s right folks, you can finally start counting down the days to the next Witcher game, as production has finally begun at CD Projekt Red.

Now, don’t get too excited, as it’s almost certainly still years away, but those of you desperately waiting for some Witcher updates finally have a juicy one: the director of the next Witcher game has confirmed that production has begun at Project Polaris (the code name for the next entry in the popular RPG series). “I am delighted to announce that Project Polaris has entered full-scale production!” wrote Sebastian Kalemba on his personal Twitter account. “With new challenges around the corner, it’s the talented and hard-working people that make me believe that together we can make the next Witcher Saga an extraordinary experience. We don’t stop now! Stay tuned for what’s in the other side of the coin!”

That last line refers to a photo combined with the tweet, which you can see above, of some coins lying on a stone floor. Obviously, if production of the game has just begun, it is still a few years away from being able to be played. How many years? Don’t ask me! I don’t know, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed for all Witcher fans that it’ll be at least sometime this decade (we’re about five years away from the next one, but we all remember what happened). to Cyberpunk 2077, right?).

One important thing to note about this upcoming sequel is that it seems unlikely to be The Witcher 4. Next year it will have been a decade since The Witcher 3 came out, and with the game taking so long to develop, there are a lot of designs being made. games. welcoming new players even if they are sequels (just look at Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and how little it references Breath of the Wild).

Geralt’s own voice has even said that the next one is not about the main protagonist of the series, although he does not know who it will be about. When the sequel was revealed, it was even noted that it’s the start of a new saga, so it’s pretty safe to say that this will start over, more or less. I’m sure we’ll find out more when CD Projekt Red is ready to show more.
