What to know
The Nets and Kings are 5-5 against each other since November 2019, but not for long. The Brooklyn Nets will face the Sacramento Kings at 9:00 pm ET on Sunday at the Golden 1 Center. Neither of those teams managed to score many points in their previous games, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.
The Nets head into this one after oddsmakers set last week’s low over/under at 214.5, but even that ended up being too high. They took a 113-98 loss from the 76ers on Friday.
The Nets’ loss came despite quality play from Cameron Johnson, who went 9-for-13 from beyond the arc en route to 37 points. Johnson is heading in the right direction considering he has improved his point production for four straight games.
Meanwhile, the point spread may have favored the Kings last Friday, but the final result did not. The matchup between them and the Clippers was not a complete victory, but with the Kings falling 104-88 on the road it was very close to becoming one. The contest marked Sacramento’s lowest-scoring game so far this season.
The Kings’ loss should not overshadow the performances of De’Aaron Fox, who scored 29 points to go along with seven assists and seven rebounds, and Domantas Sabonis, who had a double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds. Fox’s night totaled five straight games in which he scored at least 30 points. DeMar DeRozan, on the other hand, was considerably less useful, going 0-for-5 from beyond the arc.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the result, the Kings struggled to work together and finished the game with just 19 assists. They were destroyed by their opponents in that department as the Clippers scored 27.
Brooklyn’s loss was its third in a row on the road, dropping its record to 6-10. As for Sacramento, they have been struggling recently as they have lost three of their last four games, which noticeably affected their 8-8 record this season.
The Nets hope to beat the odds on Sunday as experts believe they are headed for a loss. Anyone thinking about playing them against the spread should keep this in mind: the team has not covered the last four times it played Sacramento.
The Nets may still be hurting after the devastating 107-77 loss they suffered to the Kings the last time the teams played in April. That matchup was virtually over by halftime, at which point the Nets trailed 65-40.
