‘We are very sorry’: Microsoft Flight Sim 2024 director acknowledges login issues at launch

Microsoft has said about the problems that players had when launching Flying Simulator 2024.

The untouched version in the company’s aviation simulation order was excepted on Tuesday and many players (including VGC) were unable to get the date of an initial queue viewing.

Those who managed to get out of the queue reported long loading times freezing at 97%, and those who managed to get a date reported a plane missing from their library.

Now, in a ‘Launch Day Update’ video, Microsoft Flying Sim Director Jorg Neumann and Asobo Studio CEO Sebastian Wloch apologized to avid players and explained the status.

“While it’s a great launch day, we know a lot of people are frustrated,” Neumann said. “We are very sorry, we want to apologize. We made this video because we are always here, we want to be as transparent and honest as possible. So today we have some problems, the team is on it and we will move forward.”

Explaining the issue in more detail, Wloch mentioned that the weakness is due to the server cache not keeping up with demands.

“In the beginning, when players start, they basically ask a server for some data and that server will capture it into a database,” he explained.

“It’s a very large database and there’s a cache, and that cache is currently filling up. It is a cache that has been thoroughly tested throughout the alpha, we have done load testing simulating 200,000 users and tonight it is completely overwhelmed.

“We have tried to restart services, we have taken measures to limit the number of people who can enter at the same time. It worked pretty well, so we increased the queue size and speed by 5 times, and it worked fine for maybe half an hour and then suddenly the cache crashed again.

“So we’re restarting, we’re trying to investigate, doing the best we can and going as fast as we can to make sure everyone can get in.”

A neat update on the reputable Microsoft Flying Simulator website claims that the weakness has been fixed and players should be able to start accessing the game.

“We have solved the problems and are now adding players at a constant pace,” he says. “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.”
