Nils Koppen: Rangers head of recruitment becomes technical director

Rangers have appointed director of football recruitment Nils Koppen as technical director.

The club says Koppen “will continue to oversee the club’s transfer strategy.”

“Since his arrival at the start of the year, Koppen has led the important task of implementing a new recruitment model, with Rangers striving to build a new, modern and sustainable structure for the football club,” the Ibrox team said.

And Koppen commented: “Everything is underway to prepare for the January window. [It’s] A pretty important one for the first team.

“Winning is the only thing that matters at this club and my job is to ensure that everything that supports the men’s first team, from recruitment to academy, medical, performance, operations, analysis and everything in between, is at the highest level.” as much as possible.

“I look forward to the challenge ahead and supporting the entire team as we work day and night to ensure this club fights for trophies on all fronts.”

Interim chairman John Gilligan says Koppen “has impressed the entire club with his leadership skills” and added that he is “very well suited to lead the football department.”

Ross Wilson previously served as Rangers’ director of football but departed for Nottingham Forest in 2023.

The Rangers are in the process of appointing a new CEO and long-term president.

On the pitch, Philippe Clement’s men’s team returns to action after the international break at home to Scottish Premiership rivals Dundee United on Saturday (15:00 GMT). They are third in the division, nine points behind Celtic and Aberdeen.

Jo Potter’s women’s team host the United women’s team on Sunday (4pm) and sit second in the SWPL, one point behind Glasgow City.
